Students in the program also can attend a summer school session, if required by their Individual Education Program (IEP).<\/p>\n<h2>Preparation for Independence<\/h2>\n<p>The School-to-Work program takes many steps to help create the best conditions for students\u2019 success.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Faculty comprehensively assess students to determine their talents, abilities and areas of career interest.<\/li>\n<li>Teachers provide students academic instruction for daily living and employment.<\/li>\n<li>Students acquire independent-living skills, such as money management, household maintenance, citizenship, grooming, how to make and keep friends, travel training, and how to take care of medical needs.<\/li>\n<li>Students develop recreational skills to enhance personal and professional relationships, as well as expand proficiency in special areas of interest.<\/li>\n<li>Students acquire socialization skills to increase their chances for success at home, at work and in the community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0Children\u2019s Guild partners with businesses in the community so students receive real-life vocational training experiences.\u00a0 Community internships are developed to support the student\u2019s career aspirations.<\/p>\n<h2>School-to-Work Team<\/h2>\n<p>Students in the program work with a team consisting of a special education teacher, a teaching assistant, a master\u2019s-level licensed school counselor, and several vocational specialists. The team is supported by a board-certified psychiatrist, a speech and language therapist, an occupational therapist, and a school nurse.<\/p>\n<h2>On-the-Job Training and Job Placement<\/h2>\n<p>Students learn about different types of employment through field trips and guest speakers, while the faculty team learns what kinds of work students enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>Career coaches work on site with students, teaching them job skills and behaviors for sustaining employment. When students are employed, the job coaches work side by side with them until they are ready to work independently.<\/p>\n<p>One aspect of the program is The Children\u2019s Guild\u2019s partnership with businesses in the community. The school-to-work team supervises several vocational training experiences, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Auto-detailing<\/li>\n<li>Landscaping<\/li>\n<li>Building Maintenance<\/li>\n<li>School-focused materials prep shop<\/li>\n<li>Mock hotel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Parent Involvement<\/h2>\n<p>The Children\u2019s Guild encourages parent involvement in the school-to-work program. Parents receive regular contact from the teaching team and attend team meetings.<\/p>\n<h2>Related Services<\/h2>\n<p>The Children\u2019s Guild provides numerous related services to school-to-work students, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Case management<\/li>\n<li>Crisis intervention<\/li>\n<li>Individual, group and family counseling<\/li>\n<li>Medication management<\/li>\n<li>Nursing<\/li>\n<li>Occupational therapy<\/li>\n<li>Psychiatric evaluations<\/li>\n<li>Speech and language therapy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>For more information about School to
